Singer Deco set to delight crowds on the Melty Marquee stage at KnockanStockan this Saturday

A set of twins, two Declans, a Dean, Damian, Peadar and an astounding influence from the Stone Roses take to the Melty Marquee stage at KnockanStockan on Saturday. This Ballymun based five piece, known as DeXtra, have an unnatural flare for the stage. Their energy and passion for what they do, coupled with vocalist Declan Grange’s stage presence, they can excite the most sterile of audiences.

There isn’t a song in their set that people won’t enjoy singing along to, and when the hype machine starts, arms wave in the air, cheers erupt from the dark corners of venues. They are an amazing spectacle of entertainment. There songs are from the heart and have themes everyone can relate to.

DeXtra believe that if you have a dream you should follow it to your heart’s content, and you can tell from their set at Holy Joe’s that they are.

Comedy jesters the Lonely Schizophrenic will have KnockanStockan in stitches on Sunday evening. It got all too much for us at Holy Joe’s Infernal Cabaret as cameras and tripods were constantly shaking as laughter engulfed the Mezz.

The lonely schizophrenic is Anto Kane, Schnarf and Aido Smyth. They are the Organisation of Mental terrorism. Their songs are for yours and their own amusement. Its all about having a bit of craic so you shouldn’t them too seriously neither, or you’ll miss the whole point.

The Lonely Schizophrenic on MySpace

History of Harry, KnockanStockan Main Stage, Saturday 4pm

Continuing our KnockanStockan celebrations, this week, are Main Stage act History of Harry. A band, who released their debut album Trainman in late 2008, that have commanded audiences across Ireland with their infectious soulful music, inspired by a traveling man, called Harry.

Originally a blues guitarist from Louisiana, Harry lived his life in the shadows. He played music to live and lived to play music “I’ve never come out to the front to do my thing. I’m just doing mine now. I don’t want to be no rich guy. I just want to live comfortable. That’s all. And to love people and to have people to love you.” A fond traveller, (especially on trains: he believed the real rhythm of blues comes from the sound of a train) the whereabouts of this great man are still unknown but his music lives on in the form of History of Harry. He was a teacher and a mentor to the members of this band, so his soul and passion lives on in their hearts and music.

Inspired by a passion and lust for the blues Richard Farrell (vocals, guitar, piano), Dan Whelan (guitar), Brian Murphy (bass), Eimhin Kelly (drums) gave the Mezz a set of raw, yet very funky blues. The power in their performance recently won them some recognition as the band won the Dublin Live and Unsigned Battle of the Bands.

At Holy Joe’s the blues, funk, soul outfit performed their debut album title track Trainman and everyone’s favourite High. Look out for them on the Main Stage at KnockanStockan on Saturday 4pm

History of Harry on MySpace

Born out of less than suspicious circumstances in a car park at KnockanStockan 2007, David Griffin, Mark O’Connor and Trevor Keogh quickly established themselves as one of the hardest working bands in Dublin. Recently, the time came where New Secret Weapon saw it was necessary to spread their wings and they departed the Emerald Isle on their quest for global domination.

Luckily two weeks before their departure they came down to play at the Holy Joe’s Infernal Cabaret and left every member of the audience gobsmacked! Anyone who hadn’t experienced the band before were left with treasured memories as others wondered how is it that this trio, of magnificant talent, aren’t already world-famous rockstars.

Also, for anyone who has yet to witness this mastery of prog, New Secret Weapon are flying back to Ireland to take up the slot as Saturday headliners at this year’s KnockanStockan festival, which takes place this weekend July 24th-26th.

Intinn are a 6 piece Reggae band from The West of Ireland. Their music is a blend of authentic Conscious Reggae / Dub and Drum & Bass crossed with traditional Irish Harp melodies. The group have being playing the Irish circuit of Clubs and festivals from the past 4 years and have crossed the seas to play in France, Spain and Italy. They have performed at Italys ‘Rototom Sunsplash’, Ireland’s Electric Picnic and the ‘Fete la Music’ street partys in the South of France. They have supported The Wailers, Zion Train and have shared the stage with The Skatilites and Eek a mouse. Intinn has just finished their debut album which will soon be availible to buy directly from the band on their website.

Lee Meehan is songwriter from Dublin and you can find him around Dublins city centre playing all styles of music. His songs span many different genres including soul, blues and reggae. You can catch Lee playing with the popular Dublin blues/soul band the 9Bars with Chris Byrne on bass, Stephen Farrell on 2nd guitar , and Ronan O Neil on drums. Lee also plays with a blues /folk band called the Freewheelers with John Quearney on bass, Noel Bridgeman on drums. He is also a member of the reggae band Cornerstone with Anthony Kenny on drums, Jason Fowler on 2nd guitar and Mark O Neil on bass.
